DR AGYEPONG, is the Executive Chairman and Founder of the JOSPONG Group of companies. Popularly known as Jospong, by his close associates is a seasoned Ghanaian Entrepreneur and Industrialist who has received many awards and honors in his career. He received an Honorary Doctorate degree in Literature from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology for his contribution to waste management and higher education in Ghana. Born some 42 years ago, Dr. Agyepong enrolled at the Teshie Nungua Preparatory School for his primary and middle school education. After his basic education he continued at the Royal Technical Institute in Nungua, where he studied for the City and Guilds of London Certificate, which he successfully completed in 1990, graduating with Electrical Engineering Technician Part II. After his graduation, his intention was to pursue the Diploma Programme at Accra Polytechnic. This was to further his ambition of becoming either a Pilot or Marine Engineer. Indeed, at a certain point he picked-up application forms from the Ghana Nautical College and Accra Polytechnic. During this period as Dr. Agyepong pondered over his career goals, his mother who used to sell exercise books in a small shop in Accra took seriously ill. Under the circumstances, he was forced to take over the running of his mother’s shop and exercise books business. Within a relatively short period the business grew so rapidly, beating everyone’s imagination. As a result, his father was even more resolute in his decision that Dr. Agyepong should abandon his engineering interests and focus on business. In pursuit of his desire and conviction to create jobs and improve the living conditions of the people of this country, in 1997 Dr. Agyepong ploughed back his profits from the exercise books business, and with additional support from his mother, established a printing press called Jospong Printing Press in a small room in Jamestown, a suburb of Accra. In due course Jospong Printing Press was converted into a limited liability company, and this has served as the bedrock of Dr. Agyepong’s success story. Dr. Agyepong’s conglomerate include: Appointed Time Screen Printing, J. A. Plant Pool, J. A. Quarry, Creator Digital and Zoomlion Ghana Limited among others. Dr. Agyepong introduced the tricycle concept in waste management after seeing the Chinese employ the method with high success. Indeed, the company has revolutionized waste management in Ghana. Currently Zoomlion has a core staff of 3,000 and project staff of over 65,000. Zoomlion’s superb performance before, during and after the AU Summit, and particularly CAN 2008 has won the company and the country many accolades. So high was the company rated that it also won the cleaning contract for CAN 2010 in the 11th November stadium in Luanda, Angola. Zoomlion is also operating in other African countries such as Togo and Liberia.
